Brett’s Franchise Case Study:
What were you doing before Dream Doors Kitchen?
I was selling and buying motor vehicles for retail.
Why were you looking for something else?
I’ve been in the car industry for 25-30 years. I just felt there was a need to do something different. A very good friend of mine was in Dream Doors at that time and he was setting his sight on bigger horizons to do with the Dream Doors family, and he offered me his franchise to purchase. So I took him up in his offer and I’ve been here ever since.

What were some of the concerns you had before coming onboard?
I think it’s always the concern that ‘Can I make it work?’ It’s a new industry for me. I haven’t…I was involved and I had done some speed building at New Zealand, you know, where you build houses and sell them. So I have a little bit of design experience. But with kitchens and the housing market, I was a little bit concerned – whether or not I could go to people’s houses and then sell them kitchens or renovate kitchens which I didn’t know a whole lot about. I soon learned and found that it’s something I really enjoyed.
When did you get your first franchise?
I got my first franchise back in 2014. I have 2 franchises in New Zealand, in Auckland and I have a franchise in Melbourne now.
Tell me what does a typical day looks like?
Well, I start very early in the morning so I can get my business head on and basically, I organise whether or not staff or work installers are going to different places. And then I make my routine where I call on enquiries that we get through either Google or other sources; whether it would be newspaper or referrals. And I just work my way through my day and it’s a beautiful long day.
I think that if you can talk to people and you’re honest, sincere and trustworthy, then you can pretty much be anyone you want and make a success of it.Brett Campbell
What do you love most about your Dream Doors Kitchen business?
I love the interaction with people. I love going into people’s homes, looking at their tired, old kitchens and transforming them into something that looks really smart and look like…I always liken it to a show home kitchen because it makes that much of a difference. And it gives me a big buzz, you know, it could transform somebody’s life, I suppose you’d say.
Are you happy with the decision you have made?
Absolutely! I am a 100% happy. I love the Dream Doors’ way of life. I think it’s opened up bigger opportunities for us, and I believe it’s a good lifestyle, absolutely. You can work your own hours if you want to. You can work as hard as you like or less. And of course, the more you put in, the more you get out, so it’s very much generated on the amount of effort you put into it.

What kind of people do you think this business is suitable for?
I think you can just about be anybody from any walks of life. You get fairly intense training in the business, you know. Dream Doors gives you ongoing support, and you have guidelines, and you have training manuals and so on. So I think that if you can talk to people and you’re honest, sincere and trustworthy, then you can pretty much be anyone you want and make a success of it.
The best thing about the Dream Doors business is that we’re actually solving real customer’s problem.Tien Stafidas
I was looking for something that was fairly early on in the life cycle in Australia, so not necessarily a fully established brand in Australia. So I was attracted by opportunities where I was, you know, fairly early on the piece of finding that, that exist in a low entry point financially and also greater opportunities as the brands grow and growth of your business and valuation of your business.Glenn Stanton
